Resident Tutor Profiles
St Hilda’s College - Resident Tutors 2008
St Hilda’s College is a residential college of the Uniting Church, affiliated with the University of Melbourne. The college provides accommodation for students studying at the University and for some students studying at nearby tertiary institutions.
Expressions of interest are sought from potential Resident Tutors for the 2008 academic year. Applicants must be tertiary graduates, preferably undertaking postgraduate study. Experience in university tutoring is desirable.
Resident Tutors are required to live in the college, to give tutorials in their academic discipline, to be active in the cultural and social activities of the college community and to be concerned with the general well-being of our students. Tutors may also be asked to accept responsibilities as a duty tutor on a rostered basis.

Teaching areas: Psychology
Vivian comes from the U.S., where she graduated with a BA (with distinction) from Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio), majoring in psychology and minoring in biology. She also spent a year at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, taking classes in psychology and film studies. Her travel bug has brought her to The University of Melbourne where she is currently in the final stages of the Doctor of Psychology degree, specializing in forensic psychology. Vivian has previously tutored in the first and second year psychology subjects at Melbourne University. She has an active interest in sports and has been a member of both the University of Melbourne rowing club and the women’s football club. Viv is President of the Senior Common Room.
Teaching Areas: English, Cinema Studies, Education
Kristy is a recent graduate of the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree majoring in English and Cinema Studies. In 2004 she completed her Graduate Diploma in Education and is currently working as a teacher of English and Philosophy at St Catherine’s School in Toorak. She has enrolled in a Graduate Diploma in Philosophy for this year. Kristy has an active interest in sports and, as a member of the University of Melbourne Touch Football Club, represented her university at three successive Australian University Games. She also enjoys playing basketball and tennis. She is a keen traveller having spent time in Vietnam and Sri Lanka in recent years and has just returned from the summer in Mexico and Cuba
Teaching areas: Biology, Genetics, Zoology
Janey is currently enrolled in her third year of a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at The University of Melbourne. She has previously obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Melbourne, her major areas of study being genetics and zoology. She has also undertaken a research based honours year in the Department of Zoology and her honours work was published in 2004. She hopes to become a vet in a mixed rural practice. Her general interests include running, horse riding, reading, music and travelling.
Teaching areas: Anatomy and Physiology
Jehan will teach our students studying Medicine and Physiotherapy. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Science from the University of NSW and this year is completing the final year of his degree in Medicine. He hopes to become a surgeon and community leader. He likes being involved in sport, particularly cricket, rugby and tennis, loves to travel, plays the violin and has an interest in cars and motorcycles.
Teaching areas: Architecture, Building and Planning
Pippa has a Bachelor’s degree in Planning and Design and this year will be commencing the final year of her Bachelor of Architecture degree at the University of Melbourne. Her ambition is to become a Sustainable-design Consultant or Urban Designer/ Architect. She is interested in sustainable industry, ‘Green Architecture’, and enjoys overseas travel, jewellery design and good coffee! She also likes skim boarding (in a warm climate), jogging and socialising.
Teaching areas: Political Science, History, Sociology, Criminology and French
Camille is a graduate from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics); Bachelor of Arts (Political Science & French) and a Diploma of Modern Languages (German). She is currently completing her PhD in Political Science at the University whilst working as a research assistant and tutoring within the Political Science Department. She would like to pursue a career in academia or the UN. Her interests include travel, music, history, cinema, politics and learning new languages. She has just commenced learning Arabic.
Teaching areas: Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry
Braden commences graduate-entry medicine at Melbourne University in 2007 following completion of a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Monash University. He majored in Anatomy and Pathology before taking several years to pursue a career in the theatre. Braden was fortunate enough to travel extensively through work, including some time spent volunteering in Tanzania and now looks forward very much to returning home to Melbourne to study as well as being part of St. Hilda’s college life.
Teaching Areas: Business, IT and Mathematics
Barti has a Masters degree in Business and Information Technology from The University of Melbourne and a Bachelors degree in Information Technology from PSNA College of Engineering and Technology, India. He received the A.G.Whitlam Scholarship from the University’s Faculty of Commerce, an award which recognises outstanding professional and academic performance in Business Information Technology. He is currently working as a Project coordinator in an IT consultancy. He would like to pursue his career in Business Intelligence. Barti likes googling, composing music, learning new technologies and playing the violin. He is also a wonderful cook.
Teaching Area: Agricultural Science
Matt has been a non-resident tutor in College for the past three years, tutoring first year subjects in Agricultural Science. He is currently in his final year of a PhD in the area of animal metabolism at the Faculty of Land and Food Resources. While studying at University, he also demonstrates for first, second and third year animal science subjects, as well as conducting occasional first year tutorials. He completed his Bachelor of Agricultural Science with honours in 2004. His interests include bushwalking, fishing, cooking, rugby union and rowing.
