Message from the President
Student Club takes on new challenges
Welcome to St Hilda’s College for 2007! What a year we have planned for all students! St Hilda’s College Student Club is an organisation that provides an outstanding opportunity to all its members to grow as individuals and to take opportunities as they arise.
The Student Club would not be where it is today if not for the efforts of past students. 2006 was another fabulous year with the club organising various events such as a Bus Tour, Turns and the famous Casino Night (below). Open Turn and the annual College Ball were two of the highlights, allowing members of the extended community to participate at fun College events.
On the sporting field in 2006, St Hilda’s had another very successful year, taking out premierships in the Women’s Rowing, Football and Netball. The Men’s footy team were unfortunate to go down to Newman in the Grand Final and are looking to avenge this defeat in 2007.
I acknowledge immediate past President, John ‘Nugget’ Hamilton and his General Committee for their great efforts in 2006. They provided a fun and fulfilling year, and were a great group of people who added plenty to the college community.
This year, brings great opportunities and challenges for our club. With water restrictions and the loss of the back quad due to construction, we have to think outside of the square to ensure that we have another cracking year.
We are looking forward to running many events in our new Junior Common Room. There is an increased emphasis on this facility, with the re-introduction of socialising after High Table.
Our Ball Committee is already hard at work producing an event that will enable St Hilda’s to regain the title of ‘Best College Ball in Australia’.
We believe that the quality of freshers, as well as the excellent returning Hildarians will ensure that 2007 is an even better year than the last.
I know that the rest of General Committee agrees and I look forward to working with the members of our Student Club to make sure everyone has a sensational year.
Richard Dutton, Student Club President
