Giving to St Hilda’s
As one of the youngest residential colleges on the University of Melbourne’s College Crescent, St Hilda’s has come an incredibly long way in the last forty-three years. We have developed a sense of community that is unrivalled amongst the Melbourne colleges. Put simply, St Hilda’s is the friendliest and most supportive college community you can find.
The spirit of Communitas is not just a meaningless motto; it is a way of life at St Hilda’s.
In the comparatively short time of its existence, St Hilda’s College has developed an unequalled reputation for the care and support that it provides to its residents. Almost without exception, young people who have passed through our doors count their time here as one of the happiest periods of their lives.
Thanks to the generosity and support of many friends of the College in the past and the wise stewardship of previous College administrations and Councils we have been able to continually develop and advance our educational and residential facilities.
With a strong capital works plan to ensure our residential facilities are maintained and upgraded at the highest level and with new projects such as the Southern Development nearing completion, the College is entering a new and exciting phase of growth.
We continue to receive applications well in excess of the number of places we can offer. Our students are achieving excellent academic results, their results on the sporting field are impressive and the cultural and social life of the college is rich and active.
Financial support in the form of scholarships and bursary assistance helps ensure that the St Hilda’s experience is accessible. Financial awards made to members of the college community are of record numbers.
The College relies on its own community for the significant support it needs to maintain policy and financial independence and for the development of first class educational and residential facilities for its current and future students.
All funds raised ensure that we remain at the forefront of residential education in Australia by maintaining, updating and expanding our facilities and programs.
Since its founding days in 1964 under the leadership of the late Marjorie Smart, St Hilda’s has depended on its community for its development and growth. We invite you to continue this tradition, build on our foundations and assist us in our vision of creating the most vibrant and welcoming academic residential community.
The College has a number of giving programs:
All gifts to support the College’s development are tax deductible.

St Hilda’s recognises college fees are often prohibitive. To make college more accessible to students who otherwise would not be able to experience University life, St Hilda’s offers a number of scholarships for both new and returning students undertaking courses at The University of Melbourne or neighbouring tertiary institutions.
Scholarships are awarded to successful applicants to St Hilda’s College on the basis of academic results, personal qualities and the likely contributions the student can make to the College.
With significant improvement in the academic results being achieved by our residents, the growth in the number of scholarships awarded by the College has soared in recent years.
Please see the Scholarships page for details of scholarship assistance being offered next year.
It is important to continue to provide new and diverse opportunities for our current and future students. The provision of named scholarships enables us to reward academic excellence and ensure students continue to experience college and university life regardless of means.
By contributing to St Hilda’s, you are not only providing opportunity for our students but also investing in the future of our young people and our community.
In addition to increasing general scholarship funds, St Hilda’s aims to establish new scholarships to help attract, support and enhance our diverse academic community.
If you would like to discuss these opportunities in further detail, please contact the College on 61 3 9248 8400 or email.
St Hilda’s College recognises the difficulties some students and their families face in supporting their tertiary education aspirations and university experience.
Thanks to the generosity and support of many friends of the College in the past and the wise stewardship of our previous College administrations and Councils, we are in the position to provide funding opportunities to support students in cases of financial need.
With the impact of the drought on farming families and other families from these regions, the increasing cost of university and other financial pressures on families, awards of Bursaries have been at a record high.
By contributing to our bursary fund, you are providing valuable assistance to students to continue to experience college and university life regardless of means.
