The major focus so far this year has revolved around the construction of the Southern Development. We have been working hard to turn the dream of the Southern Development into a reality.

The Southern Development is a new five-storey building overlooking the playing fields of the University and has been designed to meet the needs of older students as the College adapts to changes to the University of Melbourne, and their Growing Esteem strategy.

The Southern Development is a new five-storey building, designed to meet the needs of older students for privacy, space and greater independence, while at the same time allowing the College to increase the numbers of resident tutors and so enhance its academic life.
The Southern Development has long been dreamt about and is a very important and most exciting development for this college.
It is perhaps the last project of this scale that we can undertake on our small site without needing first to demolish another building. Most importantly it will help us achieve our academic goals, retain more students into the final years of their undergraduate degrees, enhance our tutorial program, offer accommodation that meets the needs of graduate students and provide all students with first class amenities.
These are indeed exciting days for the College.
Thanks to the generosity and support of many friends of the College in the past and the wise stewardship of previous College administrations and Councils, we are in a position to partially fund the cost of this building from our reserves.
With the new Southern Development on time and on budget, St Hilda’s is turning to you, its alumni and friends to help bring it to life with students, tutors and scholars!
You are warmly invited to join with us in supporting St Hilda’s Colleges Southern Development and to assist us in enhancing our vibrant academic community.
