Living at St Hilda's College has made my transition as an international student stress-free.
|
St Hilda's is known for its relaxed atmosphere, it is such an easy place to settle in and make a home from home. No matter where you are from, you will feel welcome here.
The new graduate block is equipped to the highest standards, with generously sized ensuite double rooms, each with their own kitchenette. With a gym and a laundry downstairs, everything is conveniently to hand. St Hilda's offers the longest lease of all the colleges and at the best price, which means you won't have to find alternative holiday accommodation. With international fees and expenses mounting up, it was reassuring to know I was getting the best possible value from my college.
Location-wise, it doesn't get much better; you are a ten minute walk from The University of Melbourne campus and a short tram ride from the centre of Melbourne. The food is excellent and varied and meal times are a great occasion for the college to come together. Whether sports or social events, there is always something going on, so it couldn't be easier to get involved.
St Hilda's respects the transition you have made from undergraduate to graduate study and provides the best possible support. The resident tutors are always on hand to help and I found the college to be a quiet and comfortable environment to study in.
You can rest assured that you will be well taken care of by the college staff with plenty of opportunities to give feedback about how you are getting on. Best of all, you are not a face in the crowd. St Hilda's is a friendly and tight-knit community, where every student is a valued member of the College. All these factors made college life the right choice for me, and I am so glad I chose St Hilda's.

Celia Knox
Home: Queensland, Australia
Studying: Master of Teaching, The University of Melbourne
I spent my first undergraduate year living at University College in North Queensland and absolutely loved it and had the time of my life!
|
For the following three years, I lived in share houses, mainly to save costs. However, despite loving the independence, during those years I missed living at college – the friends, the lifestyle, the good times. So for my fifth year of university – my first as a graduate, and also my first at The University of Melbourne, I decided to head back to the dorms.
For us grads, St Hilda's is perfect in many ways. Apart from benefits, such as three meals a day, no weekly or monthly bills, close proximity to the university and house cleaners, we are provided with: large, comfortable rooms with private ensuite and kitchenette; access to both the senior and junior common rooms; as well as many opportunities to meet scholars and others in the academic world.
St Hilda's College definitely lives up to its ‘communitas' motto as being a friendly place to live and study.
Socially there is no pressure to party with the freshers. So if you are snowed under with study, work or other commitments, it is entirely up to you how much you get involved.
