Marjorie Smart Lecture 2001
On 4 April, Justice Susan Kenny of the Federal Court of Australia delivered the Marjorie Smart Memorial Lecture for 2001. Justice Kenny is a past member of St Hilda's College, having been a student between 1973 and 1977. She was also a tutor at the College in 1980 and 1981.
Justice Kenny chose "Outsiders on the Inside: different guys, new voices and the making of the Australian Judiciary" as her topic. She spoke of the role of women and of other groups that have been traditionally under-represented in the Australian judiciary. Justice Kenny argued that it is important to achieve a more balanced representation of these groups within the Judiciary.
