The victorious Women’s Rowing 2nd Eight.
Rowing double caps sporting semester
Despite the drought over summer seeing cricket and softball cancelled, Hilda’s have had a very successful first semester on the sporting field. We’ve seen two amazing victories with both our girls and boys rowing crews coming first over the line which was a terrific effort.
We have also had some very solid performances in other sporting areas, in particular a third place in badminton, and quarter final appearances in both girls and boys soccer and boys volleyball. We would like to thank all the captains of the sports so far for being highly organised and giving our teams the best possible chance for success.

Hilda’s has some amazing sports stars we should mention. George Knowles was selected for the Under 23 Victorian Amateur Football Association representative squad. We have also had some outstanding performances by some very talented individuals who have won University Blues, which indicates extremely impressive achievement in their chosen sports.
Chloe McConville has been awarded a University Blue for Cross Country Skiing, as has Kate Blampied for Alpine Skiing. Super athlete Sophie Barker was awarded a University Blue for Athletics and a Half Blue for Cross Country Running.
Coming up, we are looking forward to footy which we are thrilled to be able to play after drought initially threatened cancellation. We have netball and basketball, table tennis, hockey and swimming. It looks like an event-filled semester and we extend best wishes to all of our teams.

The victorious Men’s Rowing 2nd Eight.
The famous green and blue was everywhere and dominated in 2006, winning three premierships and placing well in almost every sport.

One of the most dominant performances came in netball - not only did our 1st team win the Premiership, but has remained undefeated for the past six years! Our 2nds team was also in the Grand Final making our netball girls a formidable group.
While this was only one of many great wins, the best thing to come out 2006 was the enthusiasm and dedication with which everyone at St Hilda’s approached their sport. Almost every person in college has played at least one sport and those who haven’t, still played a huge role by getting to games to support our teams.
The high level of participation has been awesome and has made our job a lot easier and a lot more enjoyable. It has been our enthusiasm and never-say-die attitude which has lead Hilda’s to such fantastic results.
The year was capped off with trophy presentations and sporting year highlights at the Sports Dinner, where students were treated to a motivating and engaging presentation by guest speaker, Steve Moneghetti, one of Australia’s greatest athletes.
