Scholarships

Scholarships for 2010

St Hilda’s offers a number of scholarships for students undertaking courses at The University of Melbourne or neighbouring tertiary institutions.  Scholarships are awarded to successful applicants to St Hilda’s College on the basis of academic results, personal qualities and the likely contributions the student can make to the College.  Bursary assistance, based upon financial need, is also available to College residents.

Applicants should note that the College’s Scholarship and Bursary Program are funded by returns from the College’s trust funds. Due to the unpredictable nature of investment markets at present, the College cannot guarantee that all the under listed scholarships will be offered in 2010 or that those that are offered will be for the amounts shown.

Olive Miller Faculty Scholarship

Value: Half College Fee for the duration of the recipient’s undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda’s College.
Criteria: The Olive Miller Faculty Scholarship is offered to students commencing study in Biomedical Science with the intention of undertaking postgraduate studies in Medicine, Veterinary Science or Physiotherapy.

No new scholarship will be awarded in 2010. Three existing scholarships may be continued subject to satisfactory progress.

Una B Porter Scholarship

Value:   $5,000 for one year. May be extended
Criteria: The Una B Porter Scholarship is offered to a female student from rural Victoria who is qualified to pursue a course of study at The University of Melbourne whilst a resident at St Hilda’s College.

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of Year 12 results plus satisfactory performance at a college selection interview.  In addition, the selection committee will consider the applicant’s financial need, personal qualities, Christian faith and academic promise.

Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda’s College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

Prudence Myer Scholarship

Value:   Half College Fee for the duration of the recipient’s undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda’s College.
Criteria:  The Prudence Myer Scholarship is offered to non metropolitan students of The University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at a College. One Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need

The availability of this scholarship in 2010 will be dependant on the current recipient’s decisions regarding returning to College in 2010.

Amy R Hughes Scholarship

Value:  $5,000 for one year. May be extended
Criteria:  The Amy R Hughes Scholarship is offered to non metropolitan students of The University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at a College. One Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of Year 12 results plus a satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

No new scholarship will be awarded in 2010. The existing scholarship may be continued subject to satisfactory progress.

Lorna Lloyd-Green Scholarship for Non-Keyboard

Value: Half College Fee for the duration of the recipient’s undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda’s College.
Criteria:  Students must be enrolled in courses in the Faculty of Music or Victorian College of the Arts. The availability of this scholarship in 2010 will be dependant on the current recipient’s decisions regarding returning to College in 2010.

Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda’s College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

Lorna Lloyd-Green Bursary for Keyboard

Value:  $2,000
Criteria: Students must be enrolled in courses in the Faculty of Music or Victorian College of the Arts.

Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda’s College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

Kwong Lee Dow Scholars Scholarship

Value: $2,000
Criteria: Students who are Kwong Lee Dow scholars in receipt of the $2,500 accommodation allowance from The University of Melbourne and who have nominated St Hilda’s College as their college of first preference at the time of application and who are accepted by St Hilda’s College.

Five of these scholarships are offered in 2010. If more than five applicants qualify, the five will be selected from qualifying students on basis of the highest ENTER scores and performance at interview. 

Partnership Schools Scholarship

Value:  $2,000
Criteria: The Student having the highest ENTER score completing Year 12 studies at each of the following schools who has nominated St Hilda’s College as their college of first preference at the time of application and who is accepted by St Hilda’s College:
Geelong College
Ballarat Grammar

Melbourne Girls’ Grammar
Scotch Oakburn College
Launceston Church Grammar School
Girton Grammar School
Ballarat Clarendon College
Gippsland Grammar
Mansfield Secondary College
Redcliffs Secondary College
Bendigo Secondary College
Warrnambool Secondary College
Leongatha Secondary College

No application is required.

Florence Clucas Entrance Exhibition Scholarships

Value:  $2,000
Criteria: All students accepted by St Hilda’s College who have nominated St Hilda’s College as their College of first preference at the time of application and achieve an ENTER score equal to or greater than 99.5. No application is required.

CATO College Graduate Scholarship

Value:  $2,000
Criteria: The CATO College Graduate Scholarship is offered to a student who is accepted to pursue a post graduate course of study at The University of Melbourne.

One scholarship will be awarded on the basis of grade point average plus performance at College selection interview.

For Returning Students, St Hilda’s College offers the following scholarships in 2010:

Miller College Exhibition Scholarship

Value: $2,000
Criteria:  All 2nd year students at St Hilda’s College who have achieved an average in their studies equal to or greater than 79.  No application is required.

Moore Senior Scholarships

Value:  $2,000
Criteria:  All 3rd year students at St Hilda’s College who have achieved an average in their studies equal to or greater than 75.  No application is required.

Susan Holmes Travelling Scholarship

Value:  $4,000
Criteria:  The scholarship is to provide financial assistance for the purpose of travel that will
provide an individual with a developmental learning opportunity. The award will be made to a resident of St Hilda’s College completing their studies in 2010

The College reserves the right not to make particular awards, to vary the amount of the award, and also to offer scholarships and bursaries to students who have not applied.
