2013 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

St Hilda's offers a number of scholarships for undergraduate, graduate and non resident students. Scholarships are awarded to successful applicants to St Hilda's College on the basis of academic results, personal qualities and the likely contributions the student can make to the College. Scholarship application information and the application form can be found at the end of the scholarship list.

Bursary assistance, based upon financial need, is also available to College residents.

Scholarships for new undergraduate students

The College offers the following scholarships to new students commencing studies in 2013.

It is our normal practice to limit to one the number of scholarships awarded to new students.

Olive Miller Faculty Scholarship

Value: Half College fee for the duration of the recipient's undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda's College.

Criteria: Offered to students commencing study in Biomedical Science with the intention of undertaking postgraduate studies in Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry or Physiotherapy

One new scholarship will be awarded in 2013. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

A written application is required.

Una B Porter Scholarship

Value: $6,000 for one year. May be extended subject to satisfactory progress.

Criteria: Offered to a female student from rural Victoria studying at The University of Melbourne whilst residing at St Hilda's College. Awarded on the basis of Year 12 results plus satisfactory performance at the college selection interview. The selection committee will also consider the applicant's financial need, personal qualities, Christian faith and academic promise.

This scholarship is awarded to only one student at a time for the duration of their residency at St Hilda's College. The availability of this scholarship for a new student is dependant on the current recipient's decision regarding returning to College in 2013.

Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

A written application is required.

Prudence Myer Scholarship

Value: Half College fee for the duration of the recipient's undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda's College.

Criteria: Offered to non metropolitan students of The University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at a College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

One new scholarship will be awarded in 2013. Funds are provided annually by the Herd and Myer Foundations

A written application is required.


Amy R Hughes Scholarship

Value:      $6,000 for one year. May be extended subject to satisfactory progress.

Criteria: Offered to non metropolitan students of The University of Melbourne who could not otherwise afford residence at a College. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of Year 12 results plus a satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

One scholarship will be awarded in 2013. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

A written application is required.

Lorna Lloyd-Green Scholarship for Non-Keyboard

Value: Half College fee for the duration of the recipient's undergraduate course subject to satisfactory progress during each academic year and ongoing residency at St Hilda's College.

Criteria: Students must be enrolled in courses in the Faculty of the VCA and Music.

One new scholarship will be awarded in 2013. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

A written application is required.

Lorna Lloyd-Green Bursary for Keyboard

Value: $3,000

Criteria: Students must be enrolled in courses in the Faculty of the VCA and Music.

One new bursary will be awarded in 2013. Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

A written application is required.

Gwen & Edna Jones Foundation Western District Scholarship

Value: $10,000

Criteria: Offered to a student from the Western District of Victoria undertaking a course of study at The University of Melbourne. Awarded on the basis of Year 12 results plus satisfactory performance at a college selection interview. The selection committee will also consider the applicant's financial need, personal qualities, and academic promise. This scholarship may be continued subject to satisfactory progress.

This scholarship is awarded to only one student at a time for the duration of their residency at St Hilda's College. The availability of this scholarship for a new student is dependant on the current recipient's decision regarding returning to College in 2013.

Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

Funds are provided annually by the Gwen & Edna Jones Foundation.

A written application is required.

Invergowrie Foundation Scholarship

Value: One scholarship of $5,000 or two scholarships of $2,500

Criteria: Offered to non metropolitan female students. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of Year 12 results plus a satisfactory performance at college selection interview and demonstrated financial need.

Funds are provided annually by the Invergowrie Foundation.

A written application is required.

Kwong Lee Dow Scholars Scholarship

Value: $3,000

Criteria: Students who are Kwong Lee Dow scholars in receipt of the $2,500 accommodation allowance from the University of Melbourne.

Ten of these scholarships are available in 2013. If more than ten applicants qualify, the ten will be selected from qualifying students on basis of the highest ATAR scores and performance at interview.

Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

A written application is required.

Partnership Schools Scholarship

Value: $3,000

Criteria: The student having the highest ATAR score gained as a result of completed Year 12 studies at the following Partnership Schools:

  • Ballarat & Clarendon College
  • Ballarat Grammar
  • Ballarat High School
  • Bendigo Secondary College
  • Geelong Grammar School
  • Gippsland Grammar
  • Girton Grammar School
  • Goulburn Valley Grammar School
  • Kardinia International College
  • Launceston Church Grammar School
  • Leongatha Secondary College
  • Mansfield Secondary College
  • Melbourne Girls' Grammar
  • Redcliffs Secondary College
  • Scotch Oakburn College
  • The Geelong College
  • Warrnambool Secondary College

Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference at the time of application.

No application is required to be considered for this award.

St Hilda's College New Zealand Undergraduate Scholarship

Value: $3000

Criteria: Offered to students of New Zealand schools commencing undergraduate studies at The University of Melbourne or Monash University’s Parkville campus (Pharmacy). Applicants are required to have nominated St Hilda's College as their college of first preference. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic results.

One scholarship will be awarded in 2013.

No application is required.

Florence Clucas Entrance Exhibition Scholarships

Value: $3,000

Criteria: All students accepted by St Hilda's College who have nominated St Hilda's College as their College of first preference at the time of application and achieve an ATAR score equal to or greater than 99.5.

No application is required to be considered for this award.

Marjorie Smart Non Resident Student Scholarship

Value: $1,200 for 1 year

Criteria: Offered to students participating in the St Hilda's College Non Resident Student Program in 2013. Awarded on the basis of Year 12 results or grade point average as applicable plus performance at a College selection interview.

Five scholarships are available in 2013.

No application is required to be considered for this award.

Scholarships for returning undergraduate students

Miller College Exhibition Scholarship

Value: $3,200

Criteria: All 2nd year students at St Hilda's College who have achieved an average in their second semester results equal to or greater than 79.

No application is required to be considered for this award.

Moore Senior Scholarships

Value: $3,500

Criteria: All 3rd year students at St Hilda's College who have achieved an average in their second semester results equal to or greater than 75.

No application is required to be considered for this award.

Susan Holmes Travelling Scholarship

Value: $4,000

Criteria: The scholarship provides financial assistance for the purpose of travel that will provide the recipient with a developmental learning opportunity. The award will be made to a resident of St Hilda's College completing their studies in 2013.

Written applications will be called for during the second semester of 2013.
